About Technology Resources


 

Mission Statement
The Computer Center provides the computing network, telephone system, information processing infrastructure and services to support effective teaching, administration and a challenging technology environment for students.

General Information
The LSC-O data network consists of approximately 500 nodes. These 500 nodes are distributed across seven (7) buildings within the campus. Nine (9) student computer labs are used for instruction, two (2) open access labs,The Learning Center and student testing lab. LSC-O maintains a 50-line dialup internet service; the service is free to all students, faculty and staff. The LSC-O server environment consists of seven (7) Windows 2000 servers, one (1) NT server, one (1) Linux server and one (1) Unix server. The servers provide file/print, email, WebCT and web services.

LSC-O currently has ten (10) instructional classrooms that have audio/visual stations installed. These audio/visual stations include a projection system, VCR, visual presenter and computer with internet access.

The software applications supported include; but are not limited to office technology, pharmacy, dental office, doctor's office, CLEP testing, MOUS certification testing, various allied health study applications, programming, administrative computing and PGP applications.

The administrative computing resources are provided and maintained by Lamar University through an interagency contact. The administrative computing consists of student records, financial records, human resources information and library catalog services. The connection to the administrative computers and the internet is via a direct T1 line to Lamar University. The T1 connects to a Cisco router, and network traffic is routed to the administrative mainframes or out to the internet via a connection to the THEnet POP.

The LSC-O voice network consists of approximately 350 nodes. The voice connections are provided through the use of a Meridian 1 PBX system. Each voice node has a voice mailbox through the use of the Meridian Mail.

The technology resources staffing consists of seven(7) full-time employees. These employees provide the support for all technology resources on the LSC-O campus.
